چکیده

The major risk factors for cardiovascular disease (CVD) relate to intrinsic changes in cholesterol metabolism or blood pressure regulation or to diseases such as diabetes. In addition, it has been found that chemical and pollutant exposure has adverse effects on cardiovascular health. Although we have known about the harmful effects of smoking on heart disease for a long time, recent research shows that exposure to other environmental pollutants such as ambient air particles, automobile exhaust, and pesticides can also increases CVD risk.1 It is therefore reasonable to expect that CVD risk could be modified by metabolic processes that detoxify foreign chemicals (xenobiotics) or even endogenous toxins (eg, products of lipid peroxidation). The concept that the mechanisms of detoxification regulate disease susceptibility is one of the cornerstones of cancer research; however, only recently have we begun to appreciate the cardiovascular implications of this concept.

Glutathione S-transferases Null Genotype in Acute Myeloid Leukaemia

Background: The glutathione S-transferase (GST) family of metabolising enzymes plays an important role in the detoxification of mutagens and carcinogens. The expression of many of these cancer susceptibility enzymes is genetically polymorphic. An increased frequency of GST-null genotypes has been associated with several malignancies. Objective: To investigate the rate of GSTT1 and GSTM1 null ge...

Glutathione s-transferase M1 and T1 genetic polymorphisms in Iranian patients with glaucoma

Objective(s):Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness and it is related to oxidative stress based on numerous studies. Glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) are members of multigenic family, which have important role in cells as an antioxidant. In the present study, we examined the polymorphism of GSTT1 and GSTM1 deletion genotypes (T0M1, T1M0, and T0M0) in 100 Glaucoma patients (41with pr...

بررسی پلی‌مورفیسم ژنی ایزوآنزیم‌های GSTM1 و GSTP1 و فعالیت آنزیم گلوتاتیون S-ترانسفراز: مردان نابارور ایرانی

Background: Pi-GST and Mu-GST are subclasses of glutathione S-transferase that present on human sperm surface and play an important role against oxidative stress. Therefore, any defects in the enzyme activity may be associated with male infertility. In this study the polymorphisms of GSTM1 and GSTP1 in association with enzyme activity and sperm parameters were studied. Methods: This case-contro...

Association of glutathione S-transferase T1 and M1 gene polymorphisms with ischemic stroke risk in the Chinese Han population★

Atherosclerosis plays an important role in ischemic stroke, and oxidative stress participates in the entire process of atherosclerosis. Glutathione S-transferase (GST) acting with other antioxidant enzymes can eliminate reactive oxygen species and protect cells against oxidative damage. To assess the association of glutathione S-transferase (GSTT1 and GSTM1) gene polymorphisms with ischemic str...

Investigating the rate of glutathione S-transferase T1 and M1 genes deletion in patients with lung cancer

Introduction: Glutathione S-tarnsferases (GST) gene family is one of the enzymes which is responsible for detoxifying mutagens and Carcinogens chemicals. People with null genotype of GSTM1 and GSTT1 genes are at higher risk of developing cancer, especially those who are related to smoking. The goal of this study was investigating the rate of glutathione S-transferase T1 and M1 genes deletion an...
